Overview

RES is looking for a GIS Analyst III to sit in either our Sacramento, CA / Houston, TX / Lafayette, LA office or remotely.  

The mission: The GIS Analyst III will execute GIS projects related to ecological restoration, water resource solutions and other projects within an ESRI enterprise system.

What your day-to-day might look like?

Collaboration and Consultation

The role involves working closely with project managers to develop tailored solutions and efficient workflows for various projects. Additionally, the individual collaborates with the Geospatial Manager to identify training and technical needs, contributing to the creation and maintenance of departmental procedures.

Standardization and Documentation

A key responsibility is leading the development and documentation of geospatial standards and best practices. This includes creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GIS workflows to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.

Support and Training

The role provides support, training, and technical assistance to all GIS users within the organization. By configuring intuitive web-based solutions and offering technical guidance, the individual ensures non-GIS experts can effectively use geospatial tools and resources.

Data Management and Analysis

The position requires creating, updating, managing, and sharing GIS data in both web and desktop environments. This includes configuring and utilizing ESRI products, GPS units, smart devices, and UAVs for field data collection, management, analysis, and visualization. Advanced tasks such as site suitability and project impact analyses are also part of the role.

Visualization and Reporting

The role involves synthesizing scientific and non-scientific data into maps and visuals for a variety of purposes, including reports, permit applications, land negotiations, meetings, and presentations. These visual tools are crucial for communicating complex information in an accessible format.

Task Automation and Innovation

The individual is expected to automate complex tasks to enhance efficiency and accuracy. They also assist with Enterprise GIS management and quickly perform large-scale site searches to identify potential sites for ecological offsets.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:

 

  • BS/BA degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Sciences, or related field
  • Experience performing advanced GIS analysis to solve complex problems across multiple domains using innovative solutions.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, FieldMaps, QuickCapture, Survey123, and Story Maps
  • Basic knowledge of automation through FME, ModelBuilder, scripting, and/or API's
  • Knowledge of terrain modeling and analysis.
  • Understanding of remote sensing techniques and sensors; image processing, storage, and distribution.

What will make you stand out?

 

  • Master’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Sciences, or related field
  • Familiarity with and basic knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and permits/approvals (e.g. CWA 404/401, NWP/IP, NPDES, ESA)
  • Experience in developing with Python
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • UAS Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

 

Salary: $75,000 - $90,000
