Overview

RES is looking for a Senior Regulatory Specialist (Ecological Restoration) sitting in our Brentwood, TN, Athens, GA, or Macon, GA offices.

The mission: The Senior Regulatory Specialist is responsible for providing planning, permitting, operational oversight and reporting related to environmental and regulatory matters for RES’ projects throughout assigned states.

What your day-to-day might look like?

Your time will be split between the following functions:

 

Leadership and Project Management

Your role will involve exhibiting leadership in technical and regulatory areas relevant to consulting, project development, and execution. You'll manage contract discussions with third-party contractors, local planning authorities, and other personnel to ensure efficient project responsibilities.

 

Regulatory Document Preparation

You'll review and prepare regulatory documents, particularly those related to mitigation bank development such as the Prospectus, Banking Instrument, and Mitigation Monitoring documents. Coordination of submittals and addressing comments with appropriate agencies will also be part of your responsibilities.

 

Engagement with Regulatory Agencies

Leading engagement with regulatory agencies will be crucial to advocate for internal and external projects and obtain necessary permits. You'll also manage and oversee regulatory agency interactions and filings, including those related to mitigation and conservation banking.

 

Field Team Coordination

You'll manage and coordinate the regulatory baseline field team, including field scientists, site assessment analysts, and third-party science consultants, ensuring thorough site assessments and regulatory compliance.

 

Marketing and Client Support

In conjunction with the Sales team, you'll market RES' regulatory and environmental planning, restoration, auditing, and monitoring services to new and existing clients. You'll provide continual support through ongoing discussions, monitoring client issues, and developing mitigation plans as required.

 

Industry Participation

Your role will include participating in conferences, trade groups, and other external leadership roles to elevate RES' brand and keep abreast of industry developments. This will also involve presenting at these events to showcase RES' capabilities and achievements.

Qualifications

We want to talk to you if you have many of the following:

  • BA/BS Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Agricultural Science or similar Science
  • 10 or more years of Regulatory, Water Resources or Environmental consulting experience
  • Advanced understanding of and experience with relevant environmental regulations and permits/approvals (e.g. CWA 404/402/401, NWP/IP, ESA), and credit release schedules
  • Demonstrated existing relationships with public agencies and regulators, private developers, consulting and engineering firms, non-profits and academia in your states to further RES’ reputation and business interests

What will make you stand out?

  • Advanced understanding of restoration design principles, approaches, and supporting technical information such as engineering design plans, functional calculations, and ecological data
  • Advanced experience reading and interpreting project maps and design plans and extract information from these documents to support permitting/regulatory deliverables
  • Strong familiarity with GIS capabilities and functions
  • Additional certifications (e.g., PWS, CWB, CERP, PG, or appropriate and/or current RTE species survey licenses or regional certifications (local EPSC, hydrologic professionals, etc.).Knowledge of the Stream Quantification Tool (SQT)
