    RES is the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of ecological restoration and water resource solutions. To date, we have restored over 294 stream miles and 58,000 wetland acres and conserved and preserved 9,100 acres of endangered species habitats. RES operations include planting over 14,000,000 restorative trees and reducing over 250 tons of polluting nutrients. RES ecological solutions enable a of balance economic development and ecological sustainability.


    RES is accepting applications for a Wetland Ecologist with at least three years of relevant work experience to provide broad environmental support to a team of environmental restoration and mitigation professionals in our Chicago, IL office.


    The desired candidate’s responsibilities would primarily consist of conducting wetland delineations in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Michigan.  Occasional tasks may include performing vegetation monitoring, faunal surveys, completing datasheets, utilizing GIS to create maps, writing technical reports, and/or preparing permit applications.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • 3 or more years of relevant work experience to provide broad environmental support to a team of environmental restoration and mitigation professionals.
    • B.S. in ecology, environmental science, or related field (such as but not limited to botany, biology, geology, forestry, soil science, etc.).
    • 2 or more years of experience conducting wetland delineations and identifying native flora in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
    • Eagerness to travel extensively.
    • Experience working long hours outdoors.
    • Ability to hike 10 miles in rough terrain with 25 lbs of equipment in inclement weather.
    • Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
    • Ability to effectively multi-task to meet project requirements and deadlines.
    • Flexibility with unexpected changes in work schedule.
    • Ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet project goals.
    • Positive attitude and team-centered approach to problem solving.
    • Acceptable driving record.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • M.S. in ecology, environmental science, or related field.
    • ArcGIS proficiency.
    • Direct experience with state and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes, specifically, Clean Water Act regulations.
    • Experience with the application of the 2008 Mitigation Rule, the iHGM assessment method, and other Midwest stream and wetland assessment methodologies.
    • Stream and wetland restoration design and construction experience.
    • Experience identifying endangered species habitats.
    • Knowledge of regional state and federal endangered species programs.
    • Experience leading field scientist/ecologist teams.
    • Certifications such as CWS, PWS, WPIT, CPESC, CFM, and related are a plus.
